Intercountry Lecture Program

Short term visits to Sweden for U.S. Fulbright Scholars already in Europe, the UK and Turkey

Each year approximately 250 American lecturers and researchers representing a variety of academic fields participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program in Europe and throughout the world. Through the Intercountry Lecture Program, Swedish institutions can invite a U.S. Fulbright Scholar from another European country for a short visit to lecture and share knowledge and expertise. U.S. Fulbright Scholars in Sweden should contact the Fulbright Commission in the destination country. Applications to Sweden are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

To apply as a U.S. Fulbright scholar from outside Sweden: Interested scholars contact the Fulbright commission in the destination country for application instructions or request that the inviting host institution do so. It is the host institution that will complete the application form.

To apply as a Swedish institution: Potential Swedish host institutions identify a scholar from the list of current US Fulbright scholars in participating countries. The host institution in Sweden then fills out the application form and submits it to the Swedish Fulbright Commission by email

Once the request is approved, the grantee contacts the Commission to make arrangements for their travel. Travel should not be booked before authorization has been given by the Swedish Fulbright Commission. Thereafter, the scholar will be asked to contact the host institution to arrange mutually acceptable dates, specific lecturing/research topics, and other details for the visit. This program is not usually intended to cover travel costs for grantees to attend conferences in Sweden. Please note that only U.S. Fulbright scholars in participating countries are eligible for the Intercountry Lecture Program to Sweden. The Commission encourages applications to be submitted at least one month prior to the scheduled visit.

Applications to Sweden are accepted through April 30 each academic year. For further information about the Intercountry Lecture Program, please contact the Fulbright Commission at fulbright@fulbright.se.
